Opening of Donna Gabriel Robbins Elementary!
Revenue Generation... The Foundation and ISP!
As one member of the Board I have no "power" so to speak. To make changes it requires the majority of the Board to vote in favour of any particular action. So it with the Board that I share these successes.
Langley School District Foundation & International Student Program
When I came on the Board I was struck by the fact that we had no ability to manage our financial needs. If we needed more money all we could do was write the Minister of Education a letter of request. We always got back a simple "no, but thanks for asking" response. With that as my experience I waved the banner of revenue generation. The foremost is the Langley School District International Student Program (generates approx. $13M annually) and the Langley School District Foundation ($3.7M to make learning unforgettable!)
Financial Strength...Our Financial House is in Order!
Langley has strengthened itself financial completely in this last term. Difficult times indeed...but we persevered and paid back our over-spending of $13.5M to the provincial government a year early. Our financial team has been overhauled, strengthened and put systems and structures in place that will ensure our health. Now, Mr. Brian Iseli is taking up this important leadership role to oversee the financial well-being of the district. I have every confidence in his abilities and he has proven himself to be a wise leader in this area.
Further to this, I am so proud of the Board's achievements to put away $3M in a rainy day fund so that we can weather whatever economic storms. I am not aware of any other school district that is as prudent as Langley. There are many unknowns when it comes to forecasting and planning. However, we are ready should our international student program ever not realize its recruitment goals for the budget.

...and continued implementation of the NEW VISION!
New Mission Statement, Vision Statements.
Working together with our community the new team took us through a process to create new mission and vision statements for Langley Schools.
This foundation sets us on a collective path together to create an innovative, inspiring and unified learning community. This is my wish for all organizations that they would be inspired working and learning places. We can be world-class in this because it is an attitude that is better caught than taught...and the Board and the leadership of our schools are modelling this.

...Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement!
Click here to read the full 39 page document. We are in process of updating it and a new draft will be created in the first months of the new Boards term. Without a doubt this is something that we all can be proud of. That being said... because we are doing at good job is also a concern as... "good is the enemy of great". I look forward to doing great things in this area. I am so grateful to work in the unceded territories of the Kwantlen, Matsqui, Katzie, and Semiahmoo First Nations. I see this reconciliation work as a top priority for myself and the Board.
